Mz Originator (02:14.152)

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (02:26.099)
No need.

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (02:35.848)
I do that.

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (02:48.083)
I appreciate that.

Mz Originator (02:51.158)
Did you go into a little bit about how you became a personal trainer?

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (02:59.305)
Yeah, I kind of fell into it for lack of better words. So I got started into well, first of all, coming up as a kid, I was always athletic. I've been playing sports since I was six. The problem is I was always small. So I mean, just to give you like context to that, like I didn't hit 100 pounds to my senior year in high school. So just so we understand. right. How I came into fitness, though, is that

Mz Originator (03:17.026)
Mm.

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (03:28.872)
My second duty station, went to Germany and the company that I was going to was already deployed. So I had about maybe four or five weeks before I joined them. And within like the first three days I got in trouble. the guys that were assigned to the soldiers that were just coming in kind of took me under their wing and started going to the gym. it was just a rabbit hole. Started getting into fitness and then started seeing the change in my body.

So fast forward, what was that? Two years in Germany. So fast forward three years back and forth and people who knew me back in the day sort of change. And they told me, go into the gym and you know, the natural questions came out, you know, could you help me lose weight? Could you help me do this? Could you help me do that? And at that time I had no idea that there was a personal trainer. I didn't know what that was or I get paid from it. It was just me helping soldiers. So I had to practice there and then

Mz Originator (04:03.596)
Okay.

Mz Originator (04:25.618)
you

you

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (04:29.915)
when I came out, you know, got certified and got to work.

Mz Originator (04:36.42)
Wow, that's like a lot of dedication there. you've been basically personal training is just in your blood. It's a part of you.

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (04:44.898)
It would seem like that. I'll come to the realization years ago that my life is like of service. So I guess this is just part of what I'm doing to fulfill that.

Mz Originator (04:59.446)
Okay, all right. Well, I have a few questions here and I just want to say these are not the most conventional type of questions because if you know, if you've ever listened to any of my previous shows, you know good well I can go off on tangents. Things just pop in my brain that most people would not say. So bear with me, you know.

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (05:24.911)
Nah. Bring it. Bring it.

Mz Originator (05:29.806)
What I will start with, I will start with a softer question. want to say like, so, you know, I don't know if I want to start with a softer question because, okay, I just, I mean, I'm just saying, I'm just saying, okay, so let's start with something softer for my audience because they know I can get a little raw too, so.

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (05:45.062)
A warning shot first, huh? Okay.

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (05:59.129)
Okay.

Mz Originator (05:59.342)
So there's a struggle to maintain a fitness regimen for many clients out there today. There's just this endless amount of struggle. So what are three things a person should have in their workout routine to make their fitness journey a success? And why are they important?

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (06:20.761)
Huh, okay. Okay, I like that. First of all, for you to get into your fitness journey, like mentally, you have to be willing to pretty much change your lifestyle. And I think that's one thing people struggle with. I mean, mentally and physically, when you're so used to doing certain things, it's hard to get out of that routine. And then to get into a routine to where you don't know what the ending is gonna be.

So mentally, you have to be ready to, and not all at once, but kind of let go of what got you to this point and then start a whole other journey to where you don't know what the ending is going to be. Right? Like you're hopeful of what the ending is going to be, but you really, really don't know. And I think that's the part that scares a lot of people. I mean, physically, it really just depends on

what your goal is and where you're starting at as far as like what you should have, you know, uh, like as far as equipment, you know, if you've never used equipment, I would say have some space and some time, right? You all, cause you always start with body weight. So long as you have space and time, you're great. Um, other than that, the better options you have in your kitchen, the better your nutrition will be.

Mz Originator (07:47.694)
Well, I'ma speak for some of my audience. up. Because, you know, good deal well. We always gotta have a little salt and pepper in. And it's not always the best of options. guess with everything that is so, you know, the news coming out with so much bullshit about what's been in our food, which we've already pretty much known, but...

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (07:49.454)
Yep.

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (08:09.047)
Right.

Mz Originator (08:14.464)
I mean damn, even broccoli isn't really safe. It's like, you know, so having those good options or those healthier options, I know can be difficult, but I guess that's where you want to see a nutritionist or you want to talk to your personal trainer about what other things you can do. Would you?

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (08:17.975)
Yeah.

Mz Originator (08:41.486)
Here's an off the wall question, not one that I prepared. Would you suggest to your clients to get like their blood type and...

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (08:43.864)
Okay.

Mz Originator (08:53.326)
in the way of their blood type, would you suggest that? Because that is a big thing that I hear about a lot. People not eating for their particular blood type, which is not fair to the rest of the world. So you just be like, well, you should have known better. They don't teach that. One. But do you think that that's a good thing? OK. All right.

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (09:18.016)
thousand percent

Absolutely. So the way I coach is that I make everything really personal, right? So I'm not one of the trainers that's gonna leave you some cookie cutter bullshit exercise that goes, I call it like an umbrella program. I don't have any umbrella programs. Right, so if you're a stay at home mom or dad, you're not gonna have the same nutrition or fitness program that someone who works in a warehouse for 10 to 12 hours.

you know, ripping and running for 10 to 12 hours. You're not going to have the same program. So therefore the more personalized you can make this for you, the better it's going to be. So yep, get your blood type, know your family history. And then, know, outside of that is just know what you like and what you don't like. You know, I'm not going to give you a recipe for something with broccoli if you don't like broccoli or you're allergic to broccoli. You know, just, it doesn't make sense.

Mz Originator (10:19.778)
That would be beets for me, okay? I'm mentally allergic. Yeah, because I'm mentally allergic to beets. I don't want it. It's just, no thank you. No thank you. Okay.

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (10:22.371)
Right. So I'll never give you a recipe where anything beats.

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (10:34.141)
Right, but I mean, it also has to be sustainable. So if you don't like beets, me giving you a recipe with beets is not going to be sustainable. So it doesn't make any sense.

Mz Originator (10:43.598)
Okay, okay. So you would just substitute that out and find something that's equivalent to it?

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (10:50.955)
Exactly. Beats are great for like iron, but so is kale. So there you go. You don't like beats, but you like kale.

Mz Originator (10:56.838)
Okay. Some kale chips would be nice. That would be a good option. Oh, even better. Even better. So, okay. So let's see. What's another question that I have for you? All right. So this is more or less towards, I want to say a personal note for you. So it says like,

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (11:02.833)
and making yourself.

Mz Originator (11:26.582)
Now we know personal trainers are human too although they seem like they're machines right constantly going. Tell us as a personal trainer what's your biggest pet peeve you know about when you have clients like give us a few of your pet peeves about clients because you are emotional you have emotions things piss you off okay I wanted to

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (11:29.743)
Right. Right.

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (11:52.442)
Yeah. Yeah. and I let my clients know that too. Yeah. Yeah. So if I'm doing the work on my part, I'm taking everything from you into consideration. I'm building your program. I'm showing up when I'm supposed to show up. My biggest pet peeve is when you don't reciprocate.

Mz Originator (11:57.803)
Mz Originator (12:01.678)
Tell us, please tell us.

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (12:19.567)
Right? So you can't have me build a program to where you're supposed to work out four times a week, two times might be with me, two times on your own. You know, you know kind of what you're supposed to do for nutrition and you don't do it. But then you look at me like this isn't working. Well, you're not going to get a hundred percent results doing 50 % of the work. Like if I'm the only one doing results, doing work, you're not going to get results off the work that I'm doing.

Right, so on that note, the one thing that pisses me off is when you don't show up for you.

Mz Originator (12:55.774)
I'ma just be quiet. That is not, it's not, I mean, do you have at least some type of leeway that you give your clients or is it just like, this is, this is it? This is how I feel?

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (13:11.724)
No, no, my whole program for every client is built off of sustainability. So therefore we start slow. If you are, if you're just starting out, you've never worked out before, we're going to start with the basics. I want you to practice a couple of times in between our sessions. If we're doing, if we're talking about nutrition, I'm not going to come into your kitchen and take all the bad stuff out.

of your kitchen and now we gotta go shopping and we gotta go get all good stuff. We're gonna start with one thing. We're going to substitute that with something good. You wanna build a habit off of doing that and then we're gonna go to the next step. So everything is built off of steps and built off of sustainability.

Mz Originator (14:01.398)
I'm not mad at that if you're gonna do it in steps now you won't you won't be like that that coach or that trainer that if I was to split You'll be like We're not having next week session or You gotta pay for every time you slip or are you the burpees guy that? You gotta give me extra 20 burpees this session because you had donuts last week or

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (14:28.129)
you

Mz Originator (14:31.246)
Some mess like that. Are you one of those coaches? Because they do exist.

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (14:36.665)
They do and I have some friends that are coaches that do that. but being that, like a lot of my clients, and I think it also depends on the clientele. Now, if I have a youth athlete who's a sophomore, junior in high school, they've been playing football since fourth grade, they got a team, a coach and parents that depend on them. Absolutely, because they know better.

You absolutely going to give me some burpees if you didn't make practice, you didn't do your homework, you ate some donuts. Absolutely. But no, you're, an adult who's never, you know, never been into fitness or just getting back into fitness. You're human. You're going to slip, right? You're going to revert back into, I had ice cream last night. didn't mean, all right, No problem. The being the fact that you understood that that was a slip up. That's a win right there. Right? So no, everything is in steps.

Now, you've been with me six, seven months and you've been seeing results. And you know, you said you're going to have two drinks and you want them having 12. Then yeah, we're going to talk.

Mz Originator (15:48.078)
Well, dang, okay, well, I respect that. I respect that because one thing is your livelihood and not just just your livelihood, it's not like it's a nine to five, it's something that you're passionate about. So you want the person who's trying to achieve the goal to be passionate about their goal and respects, right? All right, so.

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (15:49.655)
You

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (16:10.484)
Right.

Mz Originator (16:16.344)
Sounds good. Does it sound too threatening as I roll my eyes? It doesn't sound too threatening, but I guess you just got to give it a chance and work through it. Now, do you provide, like I know you do some one-on-one sessions and do you do like virtual things or you have to do, it all in person?

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (16:21.29)
Bye.

Mz Originator (16:45.656)
How do you go about scheduling your sessions with your clients or with prospective clients?

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (16:54.715)
most of my sessions are virtual. but I mean, like if you're local, then, you know, yeah, we could do a in person, but most of my sessions are virtual. I also have an app that's where. If you already have a gym membership, you're already going to a gym to where I just write your program for you. And as long as you follow the program, you interact with the program, I can make it as personalized towards you. And, you know, the more you interact, the more personal it gets.

Mz Originator (17:25.458)
I like that. Okay. All right. All right. So you're pretty flexible with that with scheduling. Okay. So let's say we're talking or I mentioned perfection. My next question for you is perfection, correction and direction always seems to be a serious part of a personal trainer's lifestyle. Am I wrong? Am I right?

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (17:43.196)
Okay.

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (17:49.3)
It would look like that from the outside and that's the one thing social media has done. Makes it look like the personal trainer is perfect or never. And you have some personal trainers or fitness coaches that are transparent. But for the most part, you see all the good shots. You see, know, we went on a shredding bench for a week. You see those pictures.

Mz Originator (17:50.894)
You can say I'm wrong.

Mz Originator (17:59.343)
Mmm.

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (18:17.769)
You don't see a lot of when they walk around regularly. They don't want you to see that.

Mz Originator (18:24.79)
Okay, well, okay. So thanks for that glimpse behind the scene is because a lot of people, know, the social media and how it is like a lot of people don't think beyond what they see, you know, those just go from what they call face value, you know, so you see me and I'm shredded and I'm big, but I was you'll see me the other 362 days or 200 days.

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (18:28.603)
Right.

Mz Originator (18:52.78)
out of the year and don't know that I'm eating ding dong ring ding honey buds and all whatever. You have no idea but how about you says so what what would be shocking for clients to know about you and how you treat your body whether it be nutrition or fitness when it comes to days off.

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (19:06.419)
you

Mz Originator (19:20.313)
For you specifically, like what?

What do you how do you relax your body because you know that cheat day? Well, what do you do for your cheat day?

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (19:33.292)
like my clients know, but prospective clients might not notice, but I still drink.

You know, I still enjoy a drink every now and then. Now, my drink of choice to me is the best one because it has no calories. You know, it's made from like straight agave. It's to kill it. So I'm like, if I'm going to do it, I'm still doing it. I'm still doing the best way.

Mz Originator (19:54.293)
Hold on, hold on, hold on. Hold on, hold on.

Airbag pause!

He just said your ass can drink. That's all. For a lot. Oh, okay. No longer have a nice tease. No. wanna know?

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (20:07.408)
I said tequila, hold on.

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (20:13.906)
Nah, you know what, you got my sugars in there? You know what sugar is in there? Just a little bit.

You gotta earn that cheat there

Mz Originator (20:26.99)
So like three or four long island ice tees is equivalent to how many cheat days.

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (20:33.85)
That's probably like too much right there.

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (20:39.704)
And mind you, a cheat day is one day per week. that cheat day, for whatever meal it is. So let's say you say tomorrow, I'm going have a cheat. Mind you, I don't do cheat days. I do cheat meals. So you're not even getting a full day. So let's say you say tomorrow for lunch is going to be my cheat meal. Well, if you know that you normally consume, let's say 800 calories during lunch, your cheat meal still needs to be 800 calories.

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (21:09.679)
So, this is a whole lifestyle change to where even within that lifestyle, you can have a cheap meal, but it's still certain boundaries you have to stick to.

Mz Originator (21:20.973)
I don't know if you can see my face right now cuz um You gonna give you gonna give a damn cheat meal. I work my ass off. Hey, you want to give me a cheat meal? Oh Once a week Okay, okay, so like I'll be watching

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (21:21.352)
I got the rolling eyes emoji again. So you got the sad face on.

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (21:33.698)
You gotta keep moving. Once a week.

What's a we?

Mz Originator (21:43.758)
I be scrolling sometimes, right? And I don't know this guy's name, but he definitely is not a personal trainer. He is what it appears to be, fit. But on the inside, I'm pretty sure not because he has, I'm just calling it like I see it. I mean, I could be wrong, but I don't think he that healthy because like he'll go to these places and he'll...

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (21:58.766)
Wow.

Mz Originator (22:12.542)
He find a restaurant and he'll indulge like he's really getting it in right and he eats like 10 things 10 15 things on the menu right to give an opinion which I think that's taste bud overload but that's another story what taste bud overload

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (22:34.285)
That's a lot. No, just ten things on a menu. That's a lot.

Mz Originator (22:38.998)
Yeah, like he's pulling these are not small meals like these are big things now, of course is camera So, you know good well, he's taking a portion of that or whatever but it still can't be good because Even when he's showing on camera, he's taking a big bite of something and it could be heavy foods and as I'm looking like it well, there's ice cream and cannolis or Something fried like a burger. I mean it is

Freaking ridiculous. You mean the time mean that could be a cheat meal, right? You know and he says he only on that day he only once that once Like that's his whole day meal like all those different things. He will not eat anything else that day So what I'm trying to say is

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (23:25.472)
Okay.

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (23:32.086)
Yeah.

Mz Originator (23:36.76)
Or is that something that is frowned upon by the personal trainer? I'm interested.

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (23:45.677)
I haven't thought this dude under the bus. All right, so I don't know who you're talking about. I don't know his size, if he, not indulgence, but if his calorie intake is a lot higher per meal, he might be meeting those calorie intake boundaries during that meal. And honestly, if he's having that one meal that

per day or that day. Mind you, I guarantee he's not doing that every day. So that might be his cheat meal for that week or until his next shooting, I don't know. But if he's fit, he's probably going to the gym, he's probably exerting that. And then there's a lot of little hacks. So if you do that, then right after that, you go and take a detox or you open all your supplements and you're going to work out. And is it the healthiest?

Is it one that I would recommend? No, but it sounds like that man got a business to run too, so.

Mz Originator (24:53.228)
Yeah, because I watch those videos. I'll be like, I'm gonna go there. It is his business. But like I said, he's not a personal trainer, but I would say he has to be, you know, this is me like guessing maybe he's like five between five, six and five eight. And he looks because you know, of course, you know, like muscle mass or whatever. So it's kind of hard to tell what someone's weight truly is.

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (24:57.163)
Okay.

Mz Originator (25:20.622)
He looks fit, know, he's not like buff and muscular and cut up, but he's a medium, a size medium looks like and you know, without all that definition, you know.

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (25:29.766)
Okay. So, mean...

So it sounds like he's doing what, you know, he's at least working out a few times a week.

Mz Originator (25:41.144)
I'm done.

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (25:41.899)
And nutrition wise, he's doing what he's supposed to be doing more times than not.

Mz Originator (25:47.106)
But you don't recommend doing that. Like for your cheat day. Unless if you're watching, I guess your caloric intake or whatever you call it, you would say that that's okay to do. If you wanted to.

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (26:01.098)
I would say not starting off like guaranteed. He probably, he's probably built his body before he started doing that. And then he's a guy. So we lose fat quicker than females anyway, and we can keep it off. You know, so if he has muscle mass or if he has some type of muscle mass, it's easier to keep the fat off. So, I mean, guaranteed he's taking some kind of, you know, fat burning supplement. He's probably detoxing. He's probably working out.

He's probably eating well the other, what we can have two weeks in between the time he goes and does that.

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (26:39.922)
So, and you you got to play with age, what's the age factor in that? If he's younger, his metabolism is faster. So there's a bunch of different things that go into effect.

Mz Originator (26:52.654)
Okay, all right, I get it. get it. I get it. There's a lot. So basically don't expect to have your cheat day be something like that when there are people are your clients or anybody's clients. You really shouldn't expect that. So, okay.

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (27:07.56)
No, honestly, my clients don't get a cheat day until at least 45 days until you start the program. Like you're not getting a cheat meal until about a month and a half, two months into your program.

Mz Originator (27:20.686)
Okay, that's not bad. That's not bad. I mean if you're trying to achieve a goal in your serious Hashtag goals before excuses. Okay, I I do understand that if you are If you're really trying to achieve something and you You know, guess that helps to release those sugars and those cravings is a hard push through but

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (27:23.003)
you

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (27:31.321)
Exactly.

Mz Originator (27:47.822)
That's not bad, especially if you want to see the results. people have to respect that part. OK, so I'm glad you know the method because we don't. We just got to put up with it. All right, so we know that personal trainers always have questions for us when we go to see.

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (27:54.92)
It's a method to my madness.

Mz Originator (28:13.782)
you know, about services. What questions would be good for a client to ask their personal trainer to see if they both will work well together?

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (28:26.521)
honestly, even before the questions come out, when, when I do a consultation within the first five minutes, we know we're going to mention that. Right. So before the questions come out, it's really about personalities. you know, during the session, I'm really not that talkative, you know, because during the session I'm giving instruction, you know, and if the is talkative, then that's fine. You know, I, I.

personalities will mesh, will be good. If it's one of those situations to where, for whatever reason, our personalities just don't mesh, it doesn't matter what questions you have, we're not gonna work.

You know, so.

Yeah.

Mz Originator (29:12.558)
Okay, well, wait, well, wait, hmm. So.

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (29:19.013)
Okay, if we get past the personality test, what questions do they have for the personal trainer?

Mz Originator (29:24.302)
Yeah, like what questions what what's a good way because you know as a personal trainer like you know I'm gonna just say it because my audience know i'm not playing with you know i'm not playing about this You know as a personal trainer with some bullshit. You do know you know that um

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (29:40.623)
Right.

Mz Originator (29:45.726)
It's important to be able to ask certain questions to get the truth out of the personal trainer about how they're going to treat their client and what to expect because it is a business and people try to sugarcoat shit to get the people through the door. And then some people tell you, you can't get your money back. I don't give a shit if you don't like me. You should have figured that out at the beginning.

What kind of question? I'm so serious. Look.

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (30:17.605)
Okay.

The issue with that though is it's not a set of questions because it really depends on the person. So your two or three questions are gonna be different from the next person's two or three questions. You might be more concerned about scheduling. Hey, I don't get off work till 4.30. Can we be ready by five and be done by 5.30? That might be one of your questions. Other person's question might be.

Mz Originator (30:35.575)
Okay.

Mmm.

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (30:50.456)
How do I stop from eating ice cream at 10 o'clock at night?

Mz Originator (30:54.552)
Mmm.

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (30:54.978)
So what I will say is that get a list of questions for you together and make sure you ask those to your personal, to the potential personal trainer. Right. But there's not like a, a generic set of questions.

Mz Originator (31:12.49)
I got it. All right. I tried y'all. Listen, I want to stop here and I want to say thank you, Eric, for being the very first guest on Mz O in the Mix. I appreciate you coming on. Yay. And I do hope you come back. Another thing I want to know is how can the audience

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (31:17.156)
Yeah.

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (31:29.367)
Yes, I'm first.

Mz Originator (31:41.998)

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (31:44.572)

The blog is free. I may or might not even have a challenge up there that's free, but there's nothing up there that's going to break your pockets, right? There's nothing up there. I don't have a $3,000 challenge or anything like that. Right. Everything is.

affordable. So go up there, see what you like, ask questions, schedule a consultation, and then we'll go from there.

Mz Originator (32:26.05)

Eric goalsb4excusesacademy.com (32:52.673)
See, it can be done.

Mz Originator (32:55.214)
